One of the most troubling thoughts for me when I was in first grade was trying to fathom the loss of observational consciousness. It stemmed from realizing that robots might have some kind of "internal monologue" due to their programming, but that it would not be a truly sentient one, even with AI. This lead to considering non-existence, and then trying to imagine death as endless non-existence.

The absolute weight of thoughts still occasionally haunt me, but I'm much more at peace with it now.
